Bands on Saturday: THE FRANK AND WALTERS (Cork, IRL)

- English below -

DIE Frank and Walters! The Frank and Walters stammen aus Irland, veröffentlichen seit 25 Jahren Alben mit Hits wie "Fashion crisis hits New York", "Indie love song", "After all" oder "This is not a song" und sind nicht verwandt mit dem Bundespräsidenten.
Juchuuu! Wilkommen zurück in Köln, Paul, Ash, Rory und Cian! Es wird einige Franks im Popfest-Publikum geben!

THE Frank and Walters! Another absolute favourite of ours (spoiler: all the bands in the line-up are like this!), whose name went on our shortlist straight away. The Frank and Walters are from Ireland and release albums for 25 years now, including hits like "Fashion crisis hits New York", "Indie love song", "After all" or "This is not a song". Furthermore, they are not related to our Federal President. The band has been on Top of the Pops and appeared on the cover of Melody Maker and the NME, back when NME was still relevant.
The fact both prenames Frank and Walter have been highly popular in Germany in the 60s and the 20s (respectively) was irrelevant for our booking. Our selection criteria have been: 1) indie pop, 2) sth special, 3) cannot be seen every day and 4) favourite band. That they even fulfil two bonus criteria ("have been supported by Radiohead" and "have a self-titled song") wasn't a drawback.
In 2016 their 7th studio album was released . "Songs for the walking wounded" follows the theme, that the Irish love to hide things, especially feelings, from others. Fortunately, we don't have to hide them any longer! Yay! Welcome back to Cologne, Paul, Ash, Rory and Cian! There will be several Franks in the audience in April!
